The Magicians episode 1 review

Lev Grossman’s The Magicians is a fantasy book series. Which sets it apart from countless others is its central character or the eponymous hero. Because you see Quentin isn’t a hero at all. He is a coward like most of us. Just like us mundane people Q aspires for something great in his life but upon finding it, is too afraid to touch. He just cannot be happy no matter what. When facing the greatest foe of his life he just can’t handle it because he is no match for it. It had to be someone else, someone who is supremely more qualified than him to save him. He screws up his love life. Even his own story is screwed by him. He just isn’t the One and that’s make him and his tale so special. This is where SyFy series so spectacularly fucked up at the opening seconds.

In trying to make a compelling story they added the Julia story line and made it all too convoluted. They dumbed down Julia into some weepy CW soap opera heroine. Quentin and Julia are both supremely fucked up people but they aren’t dumb. Its Julia who is hooked up with medication not Q. That flying sex was completely unnecessary to the story at this point. And Percy isn’t a Psychic. His faculty is other Inter Dimensional Travel.

I was expecting at least some decent CGI from the creators. But alas I was wrong to even expect that. Galactica had better effects than this.

So fuck this and lets read the wonderful series which includes-
